North and East Yorkshire Award Results
The North and East Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards 2011 took place on Wednesday 6 July 2011 at the Ramada Fairfield Manor Hotel, Skelton, York.
Nine Awards were presented for the various categories of development. The number and quality of entries submitted this year were outstanding. Les Chapman, Head of North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership, stated "Building Regulations are often critisised for stifling imaginative design and innovation. I am pleased to say that it is clear from the submissions this is clearly not the case".
The winners for each category are:-
Best Domestic Extension Category - Hall Drive, Sand Hutton
Best Housing - Small Development - High Close, Scarborough
Best Social Affordable Housing - Broadacres, George Crescent, Newton on Ouse
Best Educational Building - The Hub, The University of York
Best Commercial Building under £1,000,000 - Pickering Station
Best Commercial Building over £1,000,000 - Premier Inn, Falcolners Road, Scarborough
Best Sustainable Project - East Riding of Yorkshire Council
Best Partnership with Local Authority - S Harrison Developments Limited
Best Overall Project - The Hub, University of York
The Hub is the gateway through which visitors enter the new campus of Heslington East and is the most significant building on the site. A curved wing of offices, copper-clad lecture theatres, demostration box and study pods are discrete and clustered together within and around the Grand Hall.
The Hall, with its groundfloor cafe, looks out via a fully glazed elevation to the south providing views of the lake and Vale of York. The lakeside broadway gives access to the individual study pods.
This is a most impressive building and will provide excellent study facilities for future students.
